Softball Game Preview: Lejeune Devil Pups vs. Jones Trojans

For the second straight game, Lejeune will face off against Jones. The Devil Pups will host the Trojans at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Lejeune is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak.

Lejeune lost 11-1 to Jones on Tuesday.

For Jones' part, Payten Plyler made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Plyler was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season.

In other batting news, Makenzie Maines was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one double. That triple marked the first that she hit this season. Another player making a difference was Riley Murphy, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Jones was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .481. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lejeune only posted a batting average of .316.

Lejeune's loss dropped their record down to 4-8-1. As for Jones, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-5.

Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Lejeune has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .480. However, it's not like Jones struggles in that department as they've averaged .445. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
