Basketball Recap: Roanoke Catholic Skates Past Auburn with Ease

The third road contest was the charm for Roanoke Catholic, as they earned their first road win of the season. Couldn't have asked for a better way to wrap up 2024 than the 83-56 stomp they got against the Auburn Eagles. For the Celtics, this counts as revenge for the 81-67 victory the Eagles walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2024.

Roanoke Catholic's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mason Williams, who went 8 of 11 on his way to 24 points. Williams continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Johnson, who went 8 for 11 on his way to 21 points.

The victory got Roanoke Catholic back to even at 6-6. As for Auburn, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-3.

Roanoke Catholic will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Southwest Virginia Academy at 6:00 p.m. on January 9th. Southwest Virginia Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 63.9 points per game this season. As for Auburn, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 64-57 loss against Fort Chiswell on the 2nd.
