Baseball Recap: Brashear Has No Trouble Against Aliquippa

While Brashear put up plenty of runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Aliquippa. The Bulls put the hurt on the Quips with a sharp 15-0 win. The Bulls might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by 11 runs or more this season.

Chris Tomassi made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Tomassi was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Michael Caskey was a standout: he went 1-for-2 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Brashear's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 0-4 when he doesn't). Max Reed was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Brashear always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .704. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Brashear now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Aliquippa, they are on a 24-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-10.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Brashear will take on Obama Academy of International Studies at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Aliquippa, they will square off against Freedom Area at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Quips' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 7.9 runs per game this season.
