Basketball Recap: Overton Comes Up Short

After flying high against Hunters Lane last Tuesday, Overton came back down to earth. The Overton Bobcats took a 50-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Antioch Bears. The defeat continues a trend for the Bobcats in their matchups with the Bears: they've now lost six in a row.

When it comes to explaining why Overton lost on Friday, don't look at William Livingston. Despite the final result, he went 7-for-13 on his way to 18 points and three steals. Livingston's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 18 points. Another player making a difference was Wesley Howard, who posted two points in addition to eight boards and seven assists.

Leading Antioch to victory were Giancarlo Martinez and Chris Aveary. Martinez went 5-for-8 to rack up 11 points and seven rebounds, while Aveary had five points along with six boards and five steals. The dominant performance also gave Aveary a new career-high in blocks (two). Jaiden Claybrook was another key player, putting up eight points in addition to eight assists and seven rebounds.

Overton now has a losing record of 11-12. As for Antioch, they pushed their record up to 18-7 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road.

Overton does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Antioch, they will face off against Hillsboro at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Hillsboro's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last six matches.
