St. James hasn't had much luck against Owensville recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Tigers will challenge the Dutchmen at 6:30 p.m.
It was a proper cat-fight when St. James took on Hermann on Thursday. The Tigers lost 3-0 to the Bearcats.
The match finished with set scores of 25-9, 25-8, 25-6.
St. James' loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Seble Stutzman, who had 17 digs, and Ella Marcee, who had 16 digs.
Meanwhile, Owensville had to endure a five-match losing streak, but that streak is no more. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past New Haven 3-2.
Owensville wouldn't go down easily and took New Haven into a fifth set where they got it done with a nine-point win. The final score came out to 22-25, 25-21, 25-21, 20-25, 15-6.
St. James better focus on containing Jenna Hoffmann and Clara Julius as the pair were huge in Owensville's win. Hoffmann had 25 digs and three aces, while Julius had 23 digs and two assists. Julius is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 13 or more in each of the last eight games she's played. Reece Hampton also deserves some recognition as she had her first kill of the season.
St. James' defeat dropped their record down to 3-25-1. As for Owensville, their record is now 15-17-2.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Tuesday's contest: St. James has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 4.6 aces per game. However, it's not like Owensville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.1 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
St. James came up short against Owensville in their previous meeting back in September, falling 2-0. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
