Recap: Thayer Central Titans vs. Wilber-Clatonia Wolverines
It was a good run, but the Thayer Central Titans unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of Wilber-Clatonia by a score of 47-44. Thayer Central lost against Wilber-Clatonia in their previous head to head back in December of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 49-43 score last time.
Thayer Central's loss came despite strong showings from Sam Souerdyke and Will Heitmann. Souerdyke scored 21 points, while Heitmann scored 15 points. Souerdyke scored a full 47.7% of Thayer Central's points, the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Thayer Central struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Wilber-Clatonia found their leader in underclassman Grant Kuhlmann, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter Skleba, who scored ten points along with three steals.
Thayer Central's loss dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Wilber-Clatonia, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Thayer Central will finish 2023 at home by hosting Lourdes Central Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on December 28th. Lourdes Central Catholic will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings (they are ranked 216th, while Thayer Central is ranked 90th). As for Wilber-Clatonia, they will head out on the road to face off against Central City at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Central City will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive.
