Basketball Recap: Massaponax Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Victory

Massaponax had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.7 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They had just enough and edged the Stafford Indians out 36-33. This was a revenge game for the Panthers: when they faced off against the Indians back in January, they had to take a 40-27 loss.

Massaponax's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Taliyah Alexander, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and ten rebounds. What's more, Alexander also racked up four steals, the most she's had since back in January of 2024. Savannah Teel was another key player, putting up 15 points and five steals.

Massaponax smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in four consecutive matches.

Despite the loss, Stafford still got an impressive performance from Olivia Ferguson, who almost dropped a double-double with 12 points and nine boards. Ferguson has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more rebounds the last 13 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sanaa Jenkins, who posted eight points and 14 boards.

The victory got Massaponax back to even at 10-10. As for Stafford, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-7.

Massaponax has already played their next game, a 46-43 win against Riverbend on the 10th. As for Stafford, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 61-27 victory against Mountain View on the 10th.
