            Baseball Recap: West Vikings vs. South Spartans        
        
		
        
        
            The home team had won the previous four meetings between West and South, and South kept the tradition alive. The Vikings fell  10-6 to the Spartans on Thursday. The Vikings were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Spartans earlier this season, when they won  10-9.

  Cris Melendez and  Jesse Benitez did some serious damage despite the final result:  Melendez  scored two  runs and  stole two bases while going 2-for-4, while  Benitez  scored a  run and  stole three bases while  getting on base  in three of his four plate appearances. Melendez has been hot recently, having  posted  at least one  stolen base the last four times he's  played.
West dropped their record down to 4-9 with the  defeat, which was their eighth straight  on the road dating back to last season. As for South,  with the  victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 9-5.
 Coming up, West will be playing in front of their home fans against Foothill  at 4:00  p.m.  on Tuesday. The Trojans will roll in looking for their  fourth straight  win, something the Vikings surely won't give up without a fight. As for South, they will head out to  square off against East Bakersfield  at 4:00  p.m.  on Tuesday. The Spartans are facing the Blades at the right time seeing as the Blades are stuck on  a  four-game losing streak.
