Walled Lake Western extended their losing streak to six on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 6-18 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 9-7 heartbreaker at the hands of the Milford Mavericks. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Warriors have suffered against the Mavericks since May 2, 2018.
Sierra Geisler was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Izamar Oberholtzer was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
As for Milford, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-10 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games.
On Milford's side, Kylee Flack was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed seven innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off 11 hits. What's more, Flack posted five strikeouts, the most she's had over her last nine games. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tori Russell, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Kaitlynn Elkins, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
While Walled Lake Western had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
