Basketball Preview: Somerset Academy Panthers vs. Mourning Sharks
The Somerset Academy Panthers will face off against the Mourning Sharks at TBD on Tuesday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Last Thursday, Somerset Academy was beaten by the Eagles 78-45. While losing is never fun, Somerset Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 79th, while the Eagles are ranked 17th).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Anthony Henderson, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds. Johnathan Point du jour was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Mourning's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight defeat. They were outmatched by North Miami Beach at home and fell 68-41. Mourning was down 57-28 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Somerset Academy's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 18-6. As for Mourning, they dropped their record down to 4-11 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home.
Everything came up roses for Somerset Academy against the Sharks in their previous meeting back in December of 2022 as the squad secured a 78-28 win. With Somerset Academy ahead 51-13 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
