Softball Game Preview: Lafayette Rams vs. Poquoson Islanders

Lafayette is 2-8 against Poquoson since April of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. After both having extra time off, the two teams will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 4:30 p.m. Lafayette has given up an average of 21 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Lafayette is headed into Wednesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 28th straight game dating back to last season last Wednesday. They lost 19-0 to York.

Lafayette saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Makayla Brooks, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Poquoson put another one in the bag last Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 10-9 W against Warhill. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Islanders have posted against the Lions since April 13, 2022.

Alyssa Laney was a standout: she scored a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Tinley Goodson, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs.

Poquoson pushed their record up to 7-0 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Lafayette, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-7.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Lafayette has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Poquoson struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
