Basketball Game Preview: Wisner-Pilger Gators vs. Stanton Mustangs

Wisner-Pilger and Stanton are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2018, but not for long. The Wisner-Pilger Gators will welcome the Stanton Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Wisner-Pilger took a loss when they played away from home last Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Saturday. They took their match with ease, bagging a 52-12 victory over Plainview.

Meanwhile, Stanton wrapped up 2024 with a 51-32 win over Tri County Northeast. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mustangs.

Stanton's win came from a few key players Wisner-Pilger will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Kelby Pohlman, who posted eight points along with 11 boards and five steals. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in steals. Olivia Hupp was another key player, putting up 15 points and four steals.

Stanton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 25 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in four consecutive contests.

Stanton has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. As for Wisner-Pilger, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.
