Softball Recap: Wickliffe Comes Up Short

If Wickliffe was feeling good fresh off their 22-0 takedown of Cardinal on Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Blue Devils took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Madison Blue Streaks on Friday. The game marked the Blue Devils' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Leigha Blazetic spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five runs (all of which were unearned) on five hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Wickliffe saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Maddie Prosuch, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Wickliffe's defeat dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Madison, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 8-1.

Looking ahead, Wickliffe will head out on the road to challenge West Geauga at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Madison, they will be playing at home against Jefferson Area at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
