Baseball Recap: Morgan Township Comes Up Short

Morgan Township had lost five straight at home, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 2-8-1 to make it six. They took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Kouts Mustangs & Fillies. Cherokees fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Mustangs & Fillies since on Monday.

Morgan Township saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cooper Spagna, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Jett Gheaja also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

As for Kouts, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-1. The game was the first time they have beaten Morgan Township on their field since May 5, 2021.

On Kouts' side, Billy Miller was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Miller has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs.

Morgan Township didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 4-3 loss against Kankakee Valley on the 24th. As for Kouts, they have also already played their next match, a 5-4 defeat against Jimtown on the 22nd.
