Recap: Horizon Hawks vs. West Orange Mountaineers

After a string of six wins, the Horizon Hawks's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 34-29 hit to the loss column at the hands of West Orange. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Horizon has scored all season.

Despite the loss, Horizon still got an impressive performance from Morgan Ives, who scored 18 points. Kaitlin Schumann was another key contributor, scoring two points along with 11 rebounds and six blocks.

Anaya Karriem continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for West Orange, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 15 rebounds. Those 15 rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyley Gary-Grayson, who scored six points.

Horizon's defeat dropped their record down to 7-2. As for West Orange, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 4-1.

Horizon will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Boulder at 7:00 p.m. on January 5th. West Orange's road trip will continue as they head out to face Eastside on December 27, 2023. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in New Jersey (Eastside is ranked 18th, while West Orange is ranked eighth).
