Baseball Recap: Saturday's Victory Is Cumberland's 11th in Last 12 Outings

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Cumberland and Bishop Hendricken meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Saturday. The Clippers skirted past the Hawks 4-2. This was a revenge game for the Clippers: when they faced off against the Hawks back in April, they had to take a 6-4 loss.

Liam Monahan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on six hits.

At the plate, Cumberland's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Ryan Harris, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI Harris has posted since back in April. Owen Koczera was another, going 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

Cumberland is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Bishop Hendricken, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 16-3.

Looking ahead, Cumberland will challenge Pilgrim at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Patriots will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Clippers surely won't give up without a fight. As for Bishop Hendricken, they will square off against Bishop Feehan at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The Hawks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Shamrocks have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season.
