Basketball Recap: Arvada Comes Up Short

Arvada easily dispatched Aurora West College Prep Academy last Monday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Arvada Bulldogs fell just short of the Alameda Pirates by a score of 31-29 on Saturday. The Bulldogs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Pirates apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2020.

Despite the loss, Arvada still got an impressive performance from Carmen Medina, who posted eight points and eight steals. Arvada is 8-2 when Medina posts five or more steals, but 3-9 otherwise.

Alameda had a senior duo take command as Claire To almost dropped a double-double with 14 points and nine steals and Minerva Santos had four points. That makes it five consecutive games in which To has scored at least a third of Alameda's points. Kekoa Hilbert also deserves some recognition as she posted her first blocks of the season.

Arvada's loss dropped their record down to 11-11. As for Alameda, they pushed their record up to 13-7 with the win, which was their third straight on the road.

As of now, neither Arvada nor Alameda have any future games scheduled.
