Softball Game Preview: McDonogh Eagles vs. Maryvale Prep

The McDonogh Eagles are packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game of the season: they will take on Maryvale Prep at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Maryvale Prep took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on McDonogh, who comes in off a win.

Last Thursday, McDonogh was able to grind out a solid win over Hereford, taking the game 11-7.

Meanwhile, Maryvale Prep scored the most runs they've had this season on Friday, but it wasn't enough. They took a 13-9 hit to the loss column at the hands of John Carroll. Even though they lost, Maryvale Prep's still made a splash at the plate and bumped their average scoring up to 6.5 runs per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).

Michelina M (2028) was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Reaghan S (2025) was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run.

M (2028) wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Maryvale Prep kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits every time they've taken the field this season.

Everything went McDonogh's way against Maryvale Prep in their previous matchup back in April of 2016, as McDonogh made off with a 10-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for McDonogh since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
