Basketball Recap: Rome Free Academy Extends Winning Streak to Six

Rome Free Academy waltzed into their contest on Wednesday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They strolled past the Vernon-Verona-Sherrill Red Devils with points to spare, taking the game 57-39. Given the Black Knights' advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 108th, while the Red Devils are ranked 265th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Rome Free Academy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Haylee Bostwick out in front who dropped a double-double with 18 points and 11 boards. With that strong performance, Bostwick is now averaging an impressive 15 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Amiyah Ferebee, who almost dropped a double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds.

Rome Free Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 18 consecutive games.

Rome Free Academy pushed their record up to 15-5 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.0 points over those games. As for Vernon-Verona-Sherrill, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-4.

As of now, neither Rome Free Academy nor Vernon-Verona-Sherrill have any future games scheduled.
