Basketball Recap: Trinity Takes a Loss

Trinity was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their tenth straight defeat. They had to suffer through a 83-49 loss at the hands of the Eastern Randolph Wildcats. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 598th, while the Wildcats are ranked 215th).

Despite the loss, Trinity saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Zy'Iveon Holmes posted 20 points and five rebounds. With that strong performance, Holmes is now averaging an impressive 15.2 points per game. Another player making a difference was Nazir Staton, who scored 11 points.

Eastern Randolph had a senior duo take command as Timothy Brower went 9 of 14 on his way to 24 points and Julian Brooks went 8 for 11 en route to 18 points and seven boards. Brower has been hot recently, having posted 19 or more points the last four times he's played. William Stalker was another key player, putting up eight points and seven rebounds.

Trinity's defeat dropped their record down to 3-13. As for Eastern Randolph, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 7-3.

Trinity has already played their next contest, a 60-38 loss against Southwestern Randolph on the 24th. As for Eastern Randolph, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 68-57 defeat against Southwest Onslow on the 18th.
