Softball Recap: Newport Takes a Loss

Newport extended their losing streak to eight on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 0-8 in the process. They lost 24-0 to the Bellevue Tigers. The Wildcats were not able to make up for their defeat to the Tigers from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

As for Bellevue, their victory bumped their record up to 4-6. That 24 run margin sets a new team best for them this season.

For Bellevue's part, Paulina Long made a big impact no matter where she played. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Long was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Ginny Meece was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Zariah Bedford, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three RBI and one run.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Newport will welcome Dayton at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Greendevils have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 18.88 runs per game on average), something the Wildcats will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Bellevue, they will be playing at home against Augusta at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.
