Baseball Recap: Newton Falls Extends Home Winning Streak to Ten

Newton Falls had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Garfield G-Men with a sharp 8-2 win. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 6-3 on Tuesday.

Leland Vargo spent all seven innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up ten Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Trevor Ruscoe, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2024.

Newton Falls pushed their record up to 6-5 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games. As for Garfield, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-4.
