Baseball Recap: Portland Triumphs

Portland posted their closest victory since April 9th on Friday. They had just enough and edged out the Old Lyme Wildcats 5-3. The win continues a trend for the Highlanders in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won four in a row.

Aaron Ciarleglio spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on one hit and racked up six Ks. Portland is 2-1 when Ciarleglio allows two or fewer hits, but 5-9 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Bryce Walsh, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Gerry Hall, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Portland's victory bumped their record up to 7-10. As for Old Lyme, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 11 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-14 record this season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Portland beat Old Lyme by a score of 5-3 later that day.
