Recap: Williams Vikings vs. Ash Fork Spartans
The Williams Vikings were the 45-39 winner over the Ash Fork Spartans when they last played one another on January 12th, but their luck changed this time around. Williams was just a bucket shy of victory on Saturday and fell 53-52 to the Spartans.
When it comes to explaining why Williams lost, one person who can't be blamed is Nickoli Cody. Despite the final result, he scored 26 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Cody is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Cade Trimble was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds.
Even though they lost, Williams were working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ash Fork only posted an assist.
Leading Ash Fork to victory were Gabril Zeller and Josue Tellez. Zeller dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds, while Tellez scored 20 points along with six rebounds. Zeller hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for three straight games.
Williams' defeat dropped their record down to 18-10. As for Ash Fork, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-13 record this season.
Williams will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against the Cougars at 6:00 p.m. Rock Point has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 224 points over their last three games. As for Ash Fork, they will head out on the road to take on the Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. St. Michael will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive.
