Basketball Game Preview: Bel Air Highlanders vs. Eastlake Falcons

The Bel Air Highlanders will head out on the road to square off against the Eastlake Falcons at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Bel Air was handed a heart-breaking three-point loss in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Riverside on Monday. The Highlanders breezed past the Rangers to the tune of 54-12. The win continues a trend for the Highlanders in their matchups with the Rangers: they've now won three in a row.

Bel Air found their leader in sophomore Layla Guzman, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and ten boards. Those ten rebounds set a new season-high mark for Guzman. Janiyah Monarez was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with nine points and 11 boards.

Bel Air smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in five consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, it was a Battle of the Birds when Eastlake challenged Canutillo on Tuesday. The Falcons were the clear victors by a 51-31 margin over the Eagles. The score was close at halftime, but the Falcons pulled away in the second half with 31 points.

Bel Air's record is now 8-3. As for Eastlake, their record now sits at 6-3.

Bel Air came up short against Eastlake in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, falling 52-47. Can the Highlanders avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
