Football Recap: ALA - Ironwood Takes a Loss

ALA - Ironwood had lost three straight at home, but on Friday they dropped down to 2-4 to make it four. They came up short against the Gilbert Christian Knights, falling 43-17. The last quarter was a mere formality, since the game's final score was reached by the end of the third quarter.

Despite the loss, ALA - Ironwood still got an impressive performance from Shawn Hinchcliff, who rushed for 83 yards and one score. Speaking of playmakers, who could forget Nehemiah Armstrong, who went all the way with a kickoff return for a touchdown.

Don't try to pin the team's loss on the defense: they kept the trenches locked down and allowed a mere 3.1 yards per carry. While two picked up at least eight total tackles, Caleb Flores stood above the rest. He made eight total tackles. ALA - Ironwood hasn't allowed more than four yards per carry in four consecutive matchups.

Most of the squad's points came courtesy of special teams, who contributed 11 in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Armstrong, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

As for Gilbert Christian, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 6-0. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 41.2 points this season.

Caleb Ely continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 18 yards and three touchdowns, while also throwing for 151 yards and a pair of TDs.

ALA - Ironwood will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Crismon at 7:00 p.m. on the 10th. That game will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Hinchcliff and Walker Higbee. As for Gilbert Christian, they will head out to face off against Benjamin Franklin at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Chargers' defense has only allowed 9.8 points per game this season, so the Knights' offense will have their work cut out for them.
