Baseball Recap: Laughlin Find Success

Laughlin's game on Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out the GV Christian Guardians 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Cougars have posted since March 20, 2024.

Tristin Gurule made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Laughlin is 2-1 when Gurule allows three or fewer hits, but 1-10 otherwise. Gurule was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last four times he's played.

In other batting news, Adrian Ruiz was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Laughlin's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 0-11 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Gavin Davis, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with four stolen bases and one run.

Laughlin's victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-6 and their overall record up to 3-11. As for GV Christian, they dropped their record down to 4-12 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Laughlin beat the Guardians by a score of 22-6 later that day.
