Baseball Game Preview: Coal City Coalers vs. Bishop McNamara Fightin' Irish

The Coal City Coalers will head out to square off against the Bishop McNamara Fightin' Irish at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Coal City is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last seven games.

Last Tuesday, Coal City was able to grind out a solid victory over Lisle, taking the game 7-3. That's two games straight that the Coalers have won by exactly four runs.

The team relied heavily on Gabe McHugh, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Kellen Forsythe also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Meanwhile, Bishop McNamara lost 9-1 to Andrew on Sunday. The game marked the Fightin' Irish's lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Having lost for the first time this season, Bishop McNamara fell to 5-1. As for Coal City, they pushed their record up to 9-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home.

Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Coal City has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.6 hits per game. However, it's not like Bishop McNamara struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 3.3 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Everything went Coal City's way against Bishop McNamara when the teams last played back in March of 2022, as Coal City made off with a 14-3 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Coalers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
