Baseball Game Preview: Grace Community Cougars vs. Regents Knights

The Grace Community Cougars will square off against the Regents Knights at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Grace Community played in-conference for the first time on Monday and they got just the result they were looking for. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-7 win over Bishop Dunne.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Regents). They were the clear victor by an 11-1 margin over Hyde Park back in February. The game was the first time the Knights have beaten the Panthers on their field since March 23, 2021.

Jack Buerkle made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three doubles, three RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, Max Mulacek was a standout: he scored two runs while going 2-for-2. Cash Nelson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

Regents was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .462. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Grace Community's victory bumped their record up to 12-5. As for Regents, their win bumped their record up to 2-3.
