Basketball Recap: Winter Park Snaps Four-Game Streak of Losses at Home

There's no place like home for Winter Park, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They walked away with a 48-40 victory over the East River Falcons on Thursday. For the Wildcats, this counts as revenge for the 36-29 win the Falcons walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2023.

Winter Park's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Elizabeth Riley, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 16 boards. Riley is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Rowan Duberke, who went 6 for 9 en route to 16 points.

Winter Park was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.7 assists per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 6.9.

Winter Park's win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 11-11. As for East River, the loss snapped their winning streak at six games and leaves them with a 11-7 record.

Winter Park will venture away from home to face off against Master's Academy at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for East River, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 55-40 victory against University on the 24th.
