Basketball Game Preview: Montgomery Central Timberwolves vs. Asheboro Blue Comets

Montgomery Central hasn't had much luck against Asheboro recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Montgomery Central Timberwolves will venture away from home to take on the Asheboro Blue Comets at 7:30 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Montgomery Central is headed into Friday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 27th straight game dating back to last season on Friday. They took a blow against Oak Grove, falling 85-40. While losing is never fun, the Timberwolves can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 645th, while the Grizzlies are ranked 170th).

Despite the defeat, Montgomery Central saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Christopher Curtis dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds. Curtis has been hot recently, having also posted two or more blocks the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Kameron Robinson, who posted eight points and eight boards.

Meanwhile, Asheboro was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They fell 64-56 to Ledford.

Montgomery Central's defeat dropped their record down to 0-14. As for Asheboro, their loss dropped their record down to 9-6.

Montgomery Central took a serious blow against Asheboro in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, falling 85-27. Can Montgomery Central avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
