Softball Game Preview: Oxnard Yellowjackets vs. Buena Bulldogs

The Oxnard Yellowjackets are taking a road trip to face off against the Buena Bulldogs at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Oxnard is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.6 runs per game this season.

Oxnard gave up the first runs on Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They were the clear victors by a 10-2 margin over San Marcos. The Yellowjackets haven't had any issues with the Royals recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Destinee Herrera spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on seven hits and racked up seven Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game.

At the plate, Oxnard let Shyanne Saxton and Kayla Lorona run wild. Saxton went 2-for-3 with three RBI, while Lorona scored two runs and stole two bases. That's the most stolen bases Lorona has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Rachel Godoy, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.

Meanwhile, Buena was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of Rio Mesa.

Buena's defeat dropped their record down to 3-9. As for Oxnard, their win bumped their record up to 9-4-1.

Oxnard was able to grind out a solid victory over Buena in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, winning 11-8. Will the Yellowjackets repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
