Baseball Recap: Mission College Prep Starts Season with Win Against Santa Ynez

Mission College Prep gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 14-2 margin over the Santa Ynez Pirates. The Royals haven't had any issues with the Pirates recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Brady Orfila made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, Thomas Glenn was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February of 2024. Sam Connors was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.

Mission College Prep always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Santa Ynez only posted an OBP of .158.

Santa Ynez is on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Coming up, Mission College Prep will face off against Nipomo at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Santa Ynez, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 5-1 win against Channel Islands on the 1st.
