Baseball Recap: Lake Region Takes a Loss

Lake Region was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-5 heartbreaker at the hands of the Discovery Spartans. The Thunder were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Spartans apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2022.

Gio Gonzalez was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

At the plate, Dan Colon made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Jomar Caceres was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Even though they lost, Lake Region was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. This was only their first loss (out of four games) when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Lake Region's loss dropped their record down to 5-9. As for Discovery, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-8 record this season.

Coincidentally, Lake Region and Discovery will both be playing Ridge Community the next time they take the field. Lake Region will head out to face Ridge Community at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, while Discovery will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on April 3rd.
