Baseball Game Preview: New Buffalo Bison vs. River Valley Mustangs

The New Buffalo Bison are taking a road trip to square off against the River Valley Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. New Buffalo is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.

New Buffalo gave up the first runs last Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They blew past Our Lady of the Lake Catholic 9-2. Fans of the Bison have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.

New Buffalo got a big performance out of Axel Rodriguez-Sanchez, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of Vaughn Nikkel, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

New Buffalo always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .630. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .562 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, Wednesday just wasn't the day for River Valley's offense. They came up short against Brandywine on Wednesday, falling 12-0.

New Buffalo pushed their record up to 5-0 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for River Valley, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

New Buffalo beat River Valley 7-3 when the teams last played back in June of 2024. Will the Bison repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
