Baseball Recap: Chatham Takes a Loss

Chatham extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping their season record down to 3-10 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-3 heartbreaker at the hands of the West Morris Central Wolfpack. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Cougars have suffered against the Wolfpack since April 30, 2021.

As for West Morris Central, their record now sits at 10-4. The win continues a trend for them in their matchups with Chatham: they've now won four in a row.

For West Morris Central's part, Liam Costello made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out ten batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). Costello has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Nick Rotundo looked comfortable as he pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

Back at the plate, Jake Novello was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Chatham will take on Sparta at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for West Morris Central, they will challenge Morristown at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
