Baseball Recap: West Port Takes a Loss

West Port was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat. They lost 9-3 to the Lake Weir Hurricanes. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Hurricanes this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-0 two weeks ago.

Kaiden Lavery was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off five hits.

On the hitting side, West Port saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jacob Leppert, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI. Those two hits gave Leppert a new career-high.

West Port's loss dropped their record down to 1-12. As for Lake Weir, their victory ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 5-8.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West Port will venture away from home to face off against Eastside at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Lake Weir, they will head out on the road to take on Forest at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Forest is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.
