Softball Preview: Arvada West Wildcats vs. Valor Christian Eagles
Arvada West has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will head out to square off against the Valor Christian Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Monday, Arvada West was able to grind out a solid victory over Bear Creek, taking the game 9-5.
Meanwhile, while Valor Christian put up some runs on Monday, the same can't be said for Lakewood. Valor Christian came out on top against Lakewood by a score of 3-0.
Not much got past Olivia Schmidt, who gave up just two hits and racked up eight Ks to keep Lakewood off the board. Schmidt has been consistent recently: she hasn't pitched less than six innings in ten consecutive pitching appearances.
On the hitting side, Kendall Ferguson was incredible, going 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in the last five games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Karis Flannery, who scored a run and stole two bases.
Valor Christian didn't let batters stay on the plate for long and finished the game with eight strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lakewood only tossed three.
Arvada West has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season. As for Valor Christian, they pushed their record up to 14-2 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.
