Softball Recap: Saturday's Win Is Salem's Fifth in Last Six Outings

It's playoff time, and Salem had no trouble coming through when it counted. They didn't even let the West Bolivar Eagles on the board on Saturday, marking the Wildcats' second-straight 17-0 shutout. Considering the Wildcats have won 12 games by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Alleigh Lightell and Rylea Piper were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Lightell tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Piper struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in February of 2024. At the plate, Lightell went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI, while Piper went a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, three RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, Salem got a massive performance out of Preslea Bobb, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most hits Bobb has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenley Stewart, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base.

Salem always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .957. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Salem is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-11 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for West Bolivar, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-8.

Coming up, Salem will challenge Stringer at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Wildcats will need to watch out since the Red Devils have now posted at least ten runs in their last ten matches. West Bolivar does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
