Basketball Recap: Riley Fazenbaker's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Mascoutah over Waterloo

Mascoutah was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 53-47 heartbreaker at the hands of the Waterloo Bulldogs. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Indians of the 53-32 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January.

Several Indians players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Riley Fazenbaker, who posted 16 points in addition to six boards and three steals. That was a full 34% of Mascoutah's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Jordyn Fritz, who went 6 for 8 on her way to 12 points.

Mascoutah's defeat dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Waterloo, their victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 5-5.

Mascoutah didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 55-29 loss against Freeburg on the 16th. As for Waterloo, they will host Mater Dei at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
