Football Game Preview: Greater Atlanta Christian Spartans vs. Athens Academy Spartans + How To Watch

Greater Atlanta Christian will challenge Athens Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Greater Atlanta Christian comes in on four and Athens Academy on ten.

Greater Atlanta Christian is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Landmark Christian 48-16. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Spartans just coasted through the last quarter.

Greater Atlanta Christian found their leader in sophomore Pierce Wilson, who rushed for 100 yards and two scores. Michael Miller helped out on the ground, rushing for 88 yards and a rushing touchdown.

Greater Atlanta Christian was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 218 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 195 rushing yards in four consecutive games.

Greater Atlanta Christian didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Denzell Watkins and Grant Johnson. Watkins has been hot recently, having also posted at least one defended passe the last three times he's played. He got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Athens Academy's offense rose to the challenge against a Golden Bears defense that boasted an average of only 13.67 points allowed on Friday. The Spartans walked away with a 48-37 victory over Holy Innocents Episcopal.

A big part of Athens Academy's win came down to the chemistry between Chap Chapman and his top target Keyon Standifer. Chapman threw for 388 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 16.2 yards per attempt while Standifer picked up 282 receiving yards and four TDs. Standifer's longest reception was for an incredible 78 yards.

Greater Atlanta Christian's victory bumped their record up to 9-2. As for Athens Academy, their win bumped their record up to 10-1.

Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Greater Atlanta Christian has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 188.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Athens Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 246.1 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
