The Custer County Bobcats are taking a road trip to square off against the Elbert Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Custer County knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past five matchups -- so hopefully Elbert likes a good challenge.
On Tuesday, Custer County got the win against Cripple Creek-Victor by a conclusive 22-4. The Bobcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by ten runs or more this season.
Elijah Flynn made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Flynn was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played.

In other batting news, Custer County got a massive performance out of Wade Pierce, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one double. Pierce is becoming a predictor of the Bobcats' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-6 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Taylor Bradford, who went 4-for-6 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Custer County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .312 or higher in five consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Elbert). They blew past Cotopaxi 19-4 on Monday. With that victory, the Bulldogs brought their scoring average up to 7 runs per game.
The team relied heavily on Sam Cornell, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI. He continues to improve, besting his previous run total in each of the last three games he's played. Grant Smith also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Custer County is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.9 runs over those games. As for Elbert, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-6.
