Volleyball Recap: University Lake Comes Up Short at Home Against Wayland Academy

University Lake unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They fell just short of the Wayland Academy Big Red by a score of 3-2 on Thursday. The loss continues a trend for University Lake in their meetings with Wayland Academy: they've now lost three in a row.

University Lake started the match hot and won the first two sets, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The final score came out to 17-25, 18-25, 25-17, 25-20, 15-9.

Wayland Academy was led to victory by Lexi Lesh and Elise Estervig. Lesh had 24 digs, while Estervig had eight aces and four digs. Those 24 digs gave Lesh a new career-high.

Wayland Academy's victory ended a ten-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. University Lake will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Milwaukee Juneau at 6:00 p.m. on September 16. As for Wayland Academy, they will look to take advantage of their home court for the first time this season as they take on Dodgeland at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. This will be the Big Red's first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
