Preview: Reeltown Rebels vs. Wadley Bulldogs

Reeltown is 2-7 against Wadley since January of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The two teams will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 25th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Reeltown focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Friday.

Reeltown had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. In a tight contest that could have gone either way, they made off with a 37-36 victory over Beulah.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Reeltown to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jake Hornsby, who scored three points along with 11 rebounds and four steals. That's the first time this season that Hornsby grabbed two or more steals. Finn Henderson was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with six rebounds and four steals.

Meanwhile, Wadley's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They fell 59-49 to Winterboro. Wadley has not had much luck with Winterboro recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.

Despite their defeat, Wadley saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Frisco Robertson, who scored 16 points along with nine rebounds and two steals, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was Tedrick Burns, who scored 14 points along with two steals.

Reeltown's victory bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Wadley, they dropped their record down to 8-8 with that loss, which was their fourth straight on the road.

This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Reeltown have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 31.1 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Wadley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 31.3 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Reeltown and Wadley were neck-and-neck when the teams last played back in January of 2023, but Reeltown came up empty-handed after a 57-56 loss. Thankfully for Reeltown, Isacc Minnifield (who scored 23 points along with eight rebounds and four steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
