Softball Recap: Newsome Drops Highest Score of Season Against Auburndale

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Newsome). They were the clear victor by a 15-2 margin over the Auburndale Bloodhounds on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Wolves, who have now won three matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Haleigh Galvan tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. Furthermore, she didn't allow a single earned run, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Sarai Nicholas, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Mariah Harrelson was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.

Newsome always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .588. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Auburndale only posted an OBP of .261.

The win made it two in a row for Newsome and bumps their season record up to 5-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Auburndale, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

Newsome wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, an 8-3 victory against Sarasota on the 7th. As for Auburndale, they have also already played their next contest, a 7-4 win against Sickles on the 8th.
