Baseball Recap: James Kenan Find Success

James Kenan took a six-run defeat the last time they faced off against Pender, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The James Kenan Tigers had just enough and edged out the Pender Patriots 5-4. This was payback for the Tigers, who suffered an 8-2 loss the last time these two teams met.

Cal Avent spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered five runs (all of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up nine Ks. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts.

On the hitting side, Eli Avent was excellent, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-3.

James Kenan always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .536. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pender only posted an OBP of .233.

The win got James Kenan back to even at 1-1. As for Pender, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 1-1.

Looking ahead, James Kenan will face off against Jones at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Jones has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.25 runs per game on average), something James Kenan will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Pender, they will square off against Wallace-Rose Hill at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
