Baseball Game Preview: Mariner Tritons vs. Charlotte Fightin' Tarpons

Mariner is 0-7 against Charlotte since February of 2016 but things could change on Monday. The Mariner Tritons will venture away from home to square off against the Charlotte Fightin' Tarpons at 7:00 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Mariner will bounce into Monday's matchup after beating Gulf Coast, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. Mariner had just enough and edged Gulf Coast out 6-5. The Tritons' victory was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.

The team relied heavily on Trenton Taylor, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in runs.

Meanwhile, Charlotte narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Lemon Bay 4-2. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Fightin' Tarpons.

Dominic Giglio was excellent, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

Mariner pushed their record up to 3-0 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Charlotte, their record now sits at 2-0.

Mariner might still be hurting after the 8-0 defeat they got from Charlotte when the teams last played back in February of 2024. Can Mariner avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
