Recap: Stafford Indians vs. Massaponax Panthers

The Stafford Indians's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their 11th straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 73-22 loss at the hands of Massaponax. Stafford was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-11.

Faith Butler was her usual excellent self, dropping a triple-double on 26 points, 12 rebounds, and 13 steals for Massaponax. Butler also posted eight assists for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyra Price, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds.

Massaponax was without their leading scorer, Takiera Ramey, in Monday's game. With Ramey sitting this one out, Nadia Banawoe got some extra time on the court (20 vs. her season average of 7.67). Banawoe made the most of the opportunity, scoring five points along with six rebounds. A few more games like that and she might be seeing even more time going forward.

Stafford's loss was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-14. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 26.0 points per game. As for Massaponax, the victory (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 18-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Stafford will stay at home for another game and welcome Mountain View at 5:00 p.m. on February 7th. Stafford comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 23 points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. As for Massaponax, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Riverbend at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Riverbend is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
