Akron made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 110 from 206. The improvement came about via a 46-6 victory over Sedgwick County last week.
Caliche's dynamic duo of Mitch Davison and Dakota Kingsley proved tough for Merino to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Davison threw for 117 yards and Kingsley had 67 yards receiving. Bret Quint helped Caliche's passing attack out by catching one ball for 40 yards.
Levi Hottinger was the most productive running back in A-8 North - Plains (8 Man) this week. In nine carries, he ran for 197 yards as the Rams topped the Rams. Teammate Riley Samber added to the ground attack by rushing for 51 yards.
6-foot-0 quarterback Kylar Mai of Dayspring Christian Academy is the league leader in passing yards this season with 753. He has also thrown seven touchdowns. On the ground, Akron's Hottinger has rushed for 928 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Garret Basler. The Akron star has 13 catches for 320 yards.
The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between the Eagles and Caliche. Dayspring Christian Academy enters the game ranked fourth in the state, while Paul Zink's team ranks 15th.
Hottinger of the Brian Christensen's team is only 72 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Mick Holmes' team takes on the Buffaloes. The Eagles have allowed 107 points this season, while Caliche has given up 76. Dayspring Christian Academy allowed 7 points last week as it defeated Haxtun.
The Eagles led A-8 North - Plains (8 Man) in scoring this week after putting up 46 points on the Fightin' Bulldogs.
