Baseball Game Preview: Mather Rangers vs. Rochelle Zell Jewish Tigers

The Mather Rangers are taking a road trip to challenge the Rochelle Zell Jewish Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Tuesday, Mather made easy work of ITW David Speer Academy and carried off a 12-2 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Rangers.

Lucas Lambert made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in earned runs (zero). He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Jeriel Mejias and Jake McDonough did most of the damage at the plate: Mejias scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3, while McDonough scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases McDonough has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was David Goytia, who scored a run and stole three bases while going 1-for-4.

Meanwhile, Rochelle Zell Jewish hadn't done well against Ida Crown Jewish Academy recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Sunday. Rochelle Zell Jewish narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Ida Crown Jewish Academy 4-2.

Mather's victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-0.the team's perfect season has a lot to do with their hitting performance: the team won's by an average of 9.9 runs thus far As for Rochelle Zell Jewish, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
